Small Projects For A Big Impact
As spring approaches, many people begin to think about some simple projects that can be done to improve their homes. Whether you are thinking about moving and want to make a good first impression on perspective buyers or just want to freshen up the house for your own enjoyment, there are quite a few small and inexpensive projects you can tackle that will add value to your home.
The most noticeable place to start is the front entry. Do you still have old pots with dead plants from last summer greeting your guests? Do you have furniture on the front porch that has a coating of dust and dirt from winter? Do you need a new doormat? What does the paint look like on your front door? It may be a bit too early to buy new plants, but you can dispose of the dead plants and perhaps consider some artificial greenery until it is time for a visit to the garden center. You can clean your front door or choose a new bright paint color that matches the color scheme on the rest of your home. If the door knob or hardware is worn, consider replacing it with a more modern finish or choose an option that uses a security code or camera. According to feng shui principles, the front door provides much energy for your home so spending a little extra time on this area will provide a pleasant greeting for all who enter.
The same upgrades you used for the front entry can also apply to your back entrance if you have a deck or patio where you regularly gather. Take this time to clean out flower beds and get ready to plant some flowers and bushes. The recent rainfall has softened the soil making it much easier to pull weeds!
As you move inside your home there are countless small inexpensive projects that can make a big statement. Consider a fresh coat of paint to high traffic areas or simply using one of those “magic” eraser sponges to clean scuff marks from walls or around door knobs. Replacing drawer pulls can also add a new twist to your existing cabinetry without much time or financial investment. Cleaning your windows and window treatments freshens the view and the air! You can also take some time to clean out and declutter your cabinets, closets, drawers and vanities. Donate or discard items that no longer serve a purpose in your home and take some time to rotate seasonal items for easy access.
By adopting a do-it-yourself attitude and handling some of these small projects around your home, you can improve the condition and value of your home. You will be ready for your home to hit the market and shine with fresh curb appeal or just enjoy a fresh space to entertain and enjoy!
